GCCA purchased the Methodist Chapel in Godolphin Cross in November 2017, securing for the community the use of a building which offered the only space for local people of all ages to meet together, talk, learn and socialise.

 

Three phases of refurbishment were undertaken as follows:-

 

Phase 1 - January to April 2019, the Old Chapel worship area was turned into a multi use space with new heating and modern lighting but keeping and renovating the existing stained glass windows, the wood buttresses and tiled lobby area all the while protecting and caring for a bat roost in our loft area.

 

Phase 2 - March to September 2020, focussing on modernising the toilets and drainage, installing "green" heating via air source heat pumps and improving access.

 

Phase 3 - January to April 2023, saw the last main refurbishment programme with a modern extended kitchen, improved storage and 34 solar panels continuing the pursuit of a "green" building with a minimal carbon footprint and further work to improve access for users young and old.
