Local people set up the GCCA in May 2013 following a village consultation to understand what the community wanted, which included the establishment of a youth provision, which was set up one night a week in the local Methodist Chapel and run by local volunteers from September 2014 to November 2017.

 

GCCA with strong local support and £100,000 in the bank bought the Chapel for community use, opening up new possibilities. 

 

In 2016 we conducted surveys & focus groups with young people to find out what they would like to see in the chapel IF it was bought for community use.  Comments included - WiFi - Movie evenings - Dance group - After school club - Activities to do in the winter.  Significantly, the report recorded that "It was striking how often that health came up.... both physically….but also mental health.  Kids talked about wanting a "safe space", a "friendly/social place" 

60 local young people aged 7 to 16 benefit from

purposeful activities, having a space to meet with

peers and caring adults to speak with.
